Clydebank manager Gordon Moffat hopes that bringing Ciaran Mulcahy back to the club can help his side find that clinical touch they were missing on Saturday.
The Bankies fell out of the West of Scotland Cup after a penalty shoot-out defeat to Pollok at Holm Park following a 0-0 draw.
The hosts ended the game on a high but couldn’t find the winner which took the game to penalties with Oisin McHugh missing the crucial spot-kick.
Moff introduced Mulcahy as a second-half substitute after he re-joined the club during the week after a short spell in Australia.
He left the club in early September having scored 20 goals across four seasons for the Holm Park side.
It was a busy week of movement for Moff with Creag Little also coming back to Holm Park after his loan spell at Broomhill was brought to an end and former East Stirlingshire captain Connor Greene checking in until the end of the season.
The Bankies boss played an exciting attacking trio of Mulcahy, Thomas Collins and Callum Graham in the closing stages of Saturday’s game and hinted it may be something he will consider in the weeks ahead.
Speaking to the Post, he said: “It was a sore one to take on Saturday with how the second half went.
“The first half was very even and we cancelled each other out but in the second half we were well on top and created a lot of situations. My only criticism would be that we didn’t work the goalkeeper enough.
“In the last 15 minutes, we were piling on the pressure and Pollok were fighting their way to penalties at that point.
“We just couldn’t get over the line with the goal which was disappointing and then you open yourself up to it in penalties.
“Ciaran was excellent when he came on and gave us a different dimension.
“He only had 25/30 minutes in the tank so we tried to time it right. He’ll be back in consideration for this week.
“I thought big Cal had a good game and caused them a lot of issues but they are different types of striker.
“We went two up top with the pair of them and we looked really dangerous and then with Thomas Collins in there as well we looked really good.”
Clydebank travel to Glenafton this weekend and despite Glen’s currently sitting second from bottom in the Premier Division, results are turning around.
They have lost just once in their last four, including a point at title challengers Benburb last month, and scored 11 goals along the way with Moff expecting a different contest from their 4-1 win earlier this season.
He explained: “They’ve had a couple of changes in management with a few things going on but with their new manager coming in I think they’ll do well.
“It’ll be a different game from the one at our place in terms of the ideas from the manager and they’ve had a good result against Largs on Saturday.
“It’s going to be a tough one down there with the venue and the conditions and we’ve got a few injury concerns so we just need to think about the three points.”
Kick-off at Loch Park on Saturday is at 1.30pm.
