Clydebank manager Budgie McGhie was pleased with his side’s second half reaction in their 6-1 win over Glasgow Perthshire last week.

The Bankies looked like they were heading into the break a goal down after some poor play and lack of clinical finishing, but thanks to Nicky Little’s goal after 45 minutes the hosts went in on level terms.

And in the second half they put Perthshire to the sword, scoring five goals.

He said: “We started poorly, we actually started OK in the first half and then we just we got a wee bit complacent.

“In the first half I thought our quality at times was poor and the work rate was OK but the really poor quality, decision making  really poor and it was no surprise when Perthshire took the lead.

“Thankfully we got the goal back before half-time, and after having a discussion in the dressing room at half time they’ve turned it around, with a bit of style as well.”

Budgie told the players the performances they had shown in pre-season were far above that of the first 45 minutes against Perthshire.

He added: “I told them we’ve played some pre-season games against teams like Arthurlie, Carnoustie and Dumbarton.

“I said we were a shadow of the team that played against them, against those performances and that really we were letting ourselves down. And that is not being disrespectful to Perthshire so it was a matter of going out and needing to raise it, and believing in yourself, and to be fair to them I think they did that in the second half, it was really convincing.”

While striker Alan Frizzell was not able to get himself on the scoresheet, the Clydebank boss was pleased with his display. He said: “There were some really good performances in the second half and even although Alan didn’t get a goal his workrate and his energy was very significant in that second half performance.

“He’ll be a bit disappointed he’s not got his name on the scoresheet but he caused Perthshire all sorts of problems.”
