In his latest Post column, Anniesland MSP Bill Kidd shares his thoughts on flooding on local roads as well as a 'grilling' during a recent visit from a nearby school...

I HOPE that you and yours stayed safe through Guy Fawkes Night and your pets experienced as little disturbance as possible.

It is such a fine line between general enjoyment, finance and all-round safety.

It has been a busy old time for me, with constituency issues and several visits made throughout the community.

These included meeting with Fortune Works to dedicate a new rowan tree in Drumchapel Park.

In my absence (due to the day job), my office team has been at the D70 meetings as usual, as well as the oh-so-useful Breakfast & Blether Club, which does the best rolls anywhere, I’m told.

Meanwhile, my regular surgeries are about to change a wee bit in Yoker and Whiteinch, with Yoker moving to the last Wednesday of the month and Whiteinch starting at 10am instead of 9.30am. Please look them up and drop in.

On Friday, October 13, at Netherton Community Hall, all of the elected members for Ward 14, as well as our local MP Carol Monaghan and myself, had a meeting with both Glasgow City Council and Scottish Water over the problem of sewage flooding around Trinley Road and Rotherwood Avenue.

The upshot of this meeting is that Scottish Water say they are now costing a plan to resolve the situation. Not bad after 50 years.

We also had good news from Glasgow City Council on flooding at Summerhill Road, where they and the Wheatley Group now have a comfort agreement.

A piece of land at Pitmilly Road can now be developed to put in some sort of catchment container to assist with the dreadful flooding that householders there have been suffering.

Neither is a solution that will happen this year but we are a few steps closer to sorting out both dreadful issues at last.

Over in Parliament, we welcomed S1 pupils and staff from St Thomas Aquinas Secondary School to have a look round and sit in on First Minister's Questions.

They also put me through my paces with an ad hoc question-and-answer session.

The pupils were great and gave me some really tough, reporter-style grillings. They did themselves, their families and their school proud.

On November 2, I managed to secure a Member’s Debate on removing nuclear weapons from Europe, with only the Tory party going against the motion.

This is par for the course, as they say, they are pro-multi-lateral disarmament but, when you drill down, they believe in weapons of mass destruction being kept forever.

For this to be done by a few countries is indefensible, especially when they are housed 20 miles from our biggest city and are not accident-free.

It will be after the New Year when I write to you next, so I hope you and yours have a 'rerr terr.'
