The MSP for Clydebank commended the work of a local after-school care group.

Based in the Dalmuir Community Centre on Duntocher Road, the Dalmuir Out of School Care Group (DOSCG) was established in 1992 as a not-for-profit childcare facility run by parents.

The Dalmuir Park Housing Association (DPHA) was involved in the formation of the group and has continued to support them.

Aimed at children aged four to 12, or up until the summer before high school begins, the group's offerings include a school escort service during term-time, collecting children from three local schools: Clydemuir Primary, Our Lady of Loretto Primary and St Stephen’s Primary.

They offer a playscheme during school holiday periods and in-service days, providing an array of activities for children.

Ms McNair said: “I was pleased to meet with Arlene Dickson, the care service manager and some of the team recently to discuss what services they offer.

“I was really impressed by what they offer, which is quite a unique service in the local area.

“Limited access to childcare is one of the main barriers to parental employment, which can hinder our efforts to tackle child poverty, so it’s vital we have comprehensive childcare support available for parents to make use of.

“DOSCG offers a really vital service and they will always have my support.”
