Two cars were stolen from outside Knightswood homes within minutes of each other this morning.

The vehicles were taken from addresses on adjacent streets Alderman Road and Dyke Road during a 45-minute raid.

The first, an Orange Vauxhall Mokka on Alderman Road, was snatched just after 8am whilst the owner was getting ready to go to work.

Less than an hour later, a white Volkswagen was also reported as stolen from just around the corner on Dyke Road.

It is understood one of the vehicles was left unattended whilst it defrosted from the overnight cold weather.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.40am on Friday,  January 19, 2024, we received a report of a stolen vehicle from Alderman Road in Glasgow and around 9.15am same date, we received a report of a stolen vehicle from Dyke Road.

"Enquiries are ongoing. Anyone who knows who is responsible is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101."

The thefts come as Police Scotland Greater Glasgow issued a warning to drivers after a recent spate of incidents of cars being stolen whilst defrosting.

In the appeal to people not to take the risk, they said: "It can be very tempting to leave your vehicle engine running and unattended while the windows defrost.

"Don't ever leave your car unattended with keys in it, as opportunist thieves could steal it within seconds."

The Clydebank Post understands officers are working to establish if the thefts are linked by the investigation is at an early stage.
