THE sister of a Yoker woman who sadly passed away last year admits she has been left "overwhelmed" after a night held in her sibling's honour raised over £20,000.

Kirsteen Sawyers organised the night at Drumchapel's Goodyear Club to celebrate the life of Ally Robb, who died in January 2022 after a battle with pneumonia.

Ally - who lived with Down syndrome - was an avid user of the area's social enterprise Enable Fortune Works, a charity that supports adults with a learning disability.

Clydebank Post:

And more than 200 revellers did her proud on the evening after they raised an impressive £21,671 for Fortune Works thanks to raffles, auctions and a race night.

Kirsteen said: "The night itself went better than we could have ever imagined.

"So many people came out to support us.

"They came because Ally had such a big impact on so many lives.

"She spent her life proving people wrong, she was the strongest person I knew, and she is sadly missed by all her friends and family.

“We had donations from so many people and organisations, it was quite overwhelming.

“It was a night that Ally would have loved, and I think it reflected her personality. She was full of fun.

"On behalf of the family, I would like every single person and company that donated a prize or gave a monetary donation.”

After her death, Ally's family were determined that she should leave a lasting legacy.

She attended Fortune Works for more than nine years, becoming an integral part of the very fabric of the community help group.

Anne Ainsworth, Fortune Works head of social enterprise, thanked everyone involved in putting the fundraiser together.

She said: “The night was a fitting tribute to Ally – she loved a good party.

“We really can’t thank her family and friends enough. The money they have raised will have a genuinely transformative effect on the service.

“We are really looking forward to working with Ally’s family to make sure the money goes to good use and we continue to provide a great service to everyone who attends.”

Local drinks giant Edrington contributed to the final total, while Alex Black Funeral Care generously donated £1,000 to the overall haul.

All is survived by her mum and dad, Eileen and Norrie Robb, her brother Stuart Robb, his wife Leanne, her sister Kirsteen and her husband Stephen as well as her three nephews, Mason, Drew and Alfie, and one niece, Lexi.
