A MAN spat on his neighbour's head after he saw red over an ongoing noise dispute in Clydebank.

Nathan McNeil previously pleaded guilty at Dumbarton Sheriff Court to assaulting a man on March 6, 2021.

He admitted to kicking and pushing him on the body on Montrose Street - the next street over from where McNeil lived - before seizing the victim by his clothing and spitting on his head.

The 27-year-old, formerly of Vanguard Street, appeared in the dock this week from custody where his lawyer explained that a custodial sentence would be the only option left.

Judith Reid, defending, said: "The complainer is the boyfriend of Mr McNeil's neighbour. It has been an ongoing dispute about noise.

"Mr McNeil tells me that the complainer approached him about that noise in a state and he saw red quickly. Instead of walking away, he assaulted him. He doesn't seek to minimise this in any way.

"The situation has moved on and has made matters certainly more difficult.

"Therefore I can't do anything else today but ask my lord to sentence Mr McNeil. He certainly has a record."

Sheriff Maxwell Hendry said: "You are accepting the inevitably of a sentence here. I take on board everything that has been said by Ms Reid on your behalf.

"You have repeatedly resorted to violence against other people and that is not an acceptable way of dealing with difficult situations."

McNeil was jailed for 15 months.
