A WOMAN was caught five times over the drink-drive limit on an industrial estate.

Karen McLean went behind the wheel of a red Vauxhall on Broadmeadow Industrial Estate in Dumbarton on May 6 this year.

The 37-year-old was found to have 117 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath when the legal limit is 22 microgrammes.

The first offender, of Gleniffer View, Clydebank, pleaded guilty at Dumbarton Sheriff Court to a single charge of drink-driving.

On July 18, her defence solicitor Stephen Maguire told the court: "She is someone with no record and no criminal history. There is a consequence that has to be paid and she understands that.

"There is a custody threshold which has been fully met."

Sheriff Maxwell Hendry said: "It is very sad to see someone at this stage in life coming before the courts for the first time and acquiring a criminal record.

"This was potentially a very serious matter and anything could have happened once you started driving that vehicle.

"I have to balance against that with no previous convictions and a commendable work record until you had to resign. So I am not going to send you to custody but it was something I had to think about."

The sheriff disqualified her for two years but McLean was given the opportunity to reduce that time by six months if she completed the drink drive rehabilitation course.

She was placed on a community payback order under social work supervision for one year and ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.
