BANKIES are being encouraged to volunteer at a local charity that works to maintain the Forth and Clyde Canal.

The Forth and Clyde Canal Society is on the lookout for new members to join its team to help crew and maintain its boats along the waterway.

Not only that but also to promote events, and the use, and heritage of the canal.

New recruits will be offered training in boat maintenance, engineering, handling, and interacting with the public.

The society meets on Wednesday evenings between 7pm and 9.30pm from the end of March until September.

Meetings will be held on the boats opposite The Stables restaurant in Kirkintilloch.

The call comes after community representatives in Clydebank hit out at 'dumb dumpers' for throwing shopping trolleys into the canal near the Clyde Shopping Centre.

As previously reported by the Post, volunteers from the Linnvale Community Group hauled more than 50 trolleys out of the canal in Clydebank at the weekend.

Those interested in joining should contact the charity at secretary@forthandclyde.org.uk.

Further information is available on the group's website at forthandclyde.org.uk.
