'FOR sale' signs have now gone up on the Play Drome site signalling the next phase of redevelopment of Clydebank.

The key 8.58-acres location will become available once the new Clydebank leisure centre at Queens Quay is complete early next year.

Outline planning consent was granted more than a decade ago for a possible foodstore with 84,000sqft of space. That has lapsed and the council sales brochure says preferred uses include retail, leisure, restaurant, drive thru or other commercial uses.

They might also consider a small "complementary housing element" but are discouraging residential-led use.

The closing date for offers is noon on Friday, September 23.

A West Dunbartonshire Council spokesman said: “The Play Drome is a key site in the heart of Clydebank and putting it up for sale marks another milestone in the council’s plans to regenerate the town centre.

"With such an excellent location we are excited to see what proposals are put forward by developers as we seek to secure a buyer for the site. The investment at Queens Quay will provide greater links between the waterfront and the town centre, and the future development of the Play Drome means there are exciting times ahead for Clydebank.”

Councillors agreed last year to put the Play Drome, praising it as "exciting times" for the town.
