DRUMCHAPEL joggers have been encouraged to pull on their running shoes and take part in a new weekly 5K.

Parkrun, who organise runs through parks across the country, are on the hunt for joggers, walkers, runners and volunteers to join their newest route through Garscadden Woods East every Saturday at 9.30am.

Participants meet at the Drummore Road entrance to the park and take in the trail paths across the woods, consisting of three loops and offering spectacular scenic views.

Local resident Laura Gray is one of Drumchapel parkrun’s 'core team' of volunteers who ensure the event goes ahead each Saturday morning.

Laura said: “Parkrun is a great way to start the weekend, we have a really friendly atmosphere at Drumchapel, where everyone cheers each other on.

"It doesn’t matter if you’ve run before or if you’re a novice - you can run, walk or jog round. One of our volunteers will always be the tail runner to help everyone home."

Laura added: “After the run we all go for coffee and cake at St Mark’s Church Café. It would be great to have more locals from Drumchapel and Clydebank taking part, and making this a real local event.”

The run is free and open to all ages, however, participants are asked to register in order to bring along their unique barcode and there is a 10 minute briefing session held before the run begins for any newcomers.
