A female body has been found in woods off Great Western Road in Clydebank.
At around 12.45pm, police were called to a report of the body found near a path close to World of Golf.
The identity has still to be verified. The death is being treated as unexplained.
Much of the surrounding area has been closed off to traffic and members of the public. Onlookers have been moved along by the force.
A Police Scotland Spokeswoman said: "Around 1245 hours on Monday, March 21, police were called to a report of a female body discovered in a wooded area, behind a path off Great Western Road, in Clydebank.
"A post-mortem is due to take place to establish the exact cause of death but at this time police are treating the death as unexplained. Formal identification has yet to take place. Enquiries are continuing."
The A82 remains closed between the Kilbowie Roundabout and the Drumry Roundabout. Local diversions are in place.
